“He forcefully defended the reality of Christ’s real presence in the Eucharist.”

The pope stopped reading his prepared text and while improvising, lamented that some consider the Eucharist someting similar to that of a social gathering and forget the true meaning of God’s presence in the Eucharist. After, the pope turned back to the discussion on Rubert de Deutz and stressed that he meets the two characteristics of the "ideal theologian.”

Because of the cold temperatures, the general audience took place inside Paul VI Hall. Nearly 6 thousand people attended.
