Pope sends condolences for victims of Turkish cargo jet crash

January 16, 2017. On Monday morning, a Turkish cargo plane has tragically crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing dozens and hospitalizing many others. Many homes and vehicles in the small village are also destroyed. As a result, Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin has sent a message of condolences to the victims of the disaster on behalf of Pope Francis.

The movement of youth 'Jesus Youth' completes its 25th anniversary

It has been a quarter of a century, this initiative of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal born in India and captivating especially for young people.

It was 1985, International Youth Year in which John Paul II celebrated the first World Youth Day in Rome.

At this moment, these small groups of youths who gathered in parishes decided to meet in Kampala, India, as a single movement.

“We had a big conference that took place in India and the name of the conference was ‘Jesus Youth’. That is why we received the name.”

The movement continued growing and it has extended to 25 countries. It started in the United Kingdom and has reached Malaysia, Australia, Switzerland and Pakistan. One of the most important obstacles for the movement has been to adopt to European culture and to new generations.

The youth involved with the movement receive spiritual formation and pray together. They also promise to teach others and help the poor.

“Many people have come here before and they have converted by sitting with the Lord. So it is very useful for young people specially to come and sit with the Lord and the pray for the priests.”

On this 25th anniversary they have prepared special moments for prayer, a trip to the Holy Land and a conference with members from all over the world in Kampala, the place where ‘Jesus Youth’ was created. They will also enhance a  program to support the education of 2,500 poor children in India.
