Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt directed "Letters to God," a film full of hope

2011-03-22

The film was released in the USA in November 2009. It tells the moving story of Oscar, a 10-year-old boy who is terminally ill.

Both the doctors and his parents are afraid to tell Oscar the truth about his health. Only Rosa, a former boxer, tells Oscar about his condition. Rosa suggests to Oscar to live every day as if it were 10 years of his life and to tell his experiences to God through letters. Oscar and Rosa become close friends, and both of their lives are changed.

According to the writer and director, both the book and the film is a celebration of hope because "when medicine can not do anything, you can save people with humor and imagination."
