Pope calls for Syria to stop violence and take on political reforms

The Pope calls on Syria to hear the cries of its people and also the pleas from international institutions. He calls on the country to not respond to the tension with “greater intolerance, discrimination and violence,” but rather with “absolute respect for truth, coexistence, and the legitimate rights of individuals and their communities.” Above all he calls for reconciliation.

Benedict XVI mentioned that “the unity and stability of any country is based on the right to human dignity.”

He also emphasized that Syria has been an example of tolerance and coexistence. Especially, in its relationship between Muslims and Christians.
