The pope said a prayer for those in need and expressed his solidarity with them. He also urged the international community to help in solving the problem.
“Countless people are fleeing from the famine in search of food and aid. I hope international mobilization grows to send timely relief to our brothers and sisters already sorely tried, among which there are so many children.”
During the Angelus, Benedict XVI explained a parable by Jesus on the Kingdom of Heaven and how to live with faith.
“Jesus compares the Kingdom of heaven to a wheat field, to help us understand that something small and hidden is sown within us, which, however, has an irrepressible life force. Despite all obstacles, the seed will grow and the fruit ripen.”
Benedict XVI delivered the Angelus from his summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, where he will be until the end of September.
