Pierre-Marie Carré: “The New Evangelization and the Year of Faith go together”

Msgr. Pierre-Marie Carrè
Archbishop of Montpellier (France)

"In preparation for the synod, we had to summarize all of the Church experiences and questions, to understand the current situation. That has been done. Now the second step is to develop the working document called 'Instrumentum laboris'. The Italian version is ready but it still has to be translated into several languages. By early June, they will be available.”

The Synod will consider what initiatives have helped to meet the new challenges. It will also look into the concerns of those who have distanced themselves from religious practice.
The meeting coincides with the launch of the Year of the Faith, called for by Benedict XVI to commemorate 50 years of the Second Vatican Council.

Msgr. Pierre-Marie Carrè
Archbishop of Montpelier (France)

"The Holy Father is very much in favor of the Year of the Faith because it has the same challenge. The New Evangelization means that faith is more alive, professed, celebrated, and truly lived. This year will bring us to the heart of faith with the catechism and the anniversary of Vatican II.”

Rather than focus on searching for strategies, the Synod for the New Evangelization will invite all Christians to renew and deepen their beliefs and pass them on to others. That meeting will be held in Rome from October 7th to the 28th.
