Pope sends condolences for victims of Turkish cargo jet crash

January 16, 2017. On Monday morning, a Turkish cargo plane has tragically crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing dozens and hospitalizing many others. Many homes and vehicles in the small village are also destroyed. As a result, Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin has sent a message of condolences to the victims of the disaster on behalf of Pope Francis.

The Pope went on to explain the beauty of the family unit, by describing it as a community of love that's open to life and based on marriage.

Benedict XVI thanked the city of Milan and all attendees, for their hospitality. He also asked everyone to pray for those don't always follow their commitment to love.

In addition to choirs from different countries, a group of Colombian soldiers and police officers were also in attendance. Years ago, they were kidnapped by the country's FARC rebels. They were invited to attend the general audience, since they wanted to thank the Pope for his constant prayers.
