2012-06-06

The Pope went on to explain the beauty of the family unit, by describing it as a community of love that's open to life and based on marriage.

Benedict XVI
"This joyful international gathering was an inspiring witness to the rich and varied identity of the family as a communion of love, based on marriage, a sanctuary of life, a domestic church and the primary cell of society.”

Benedict XVI thanked the city of Milan and all attendees, for their hospitality. He also asked everyone to pray for those don't always follow their commitment to love.

Benedict XVI
"The dialogue which took place at the Feast of Testimonies provided an opportunity to reflect on some of the pressing challenges experienced by families today, including the difficulty of finding time to be together, even on the Lord's Day.”

In addition to choirs from different countries, a group of Colombian soldiers and police officers were also in attendance. Years ago, they were kidnapped by the country's FARC rebels. They were invited to attend the general audience, since they wanted to thank the Pope for his constant prayers.
