February 17, 2017. Pope Francis has sent an important message to the Meetings of Popular Movements that is taking place in Modesto (California). The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

Pope to Colombian Bishops: Growing religious pluralism is a concern

2012-06-22

Benedict XVI
"While years ago there was a recognizable and unified social fabric in which reference to the faith and the inspirations of faith was broadly accepted, today in vast areas of society this no longer seems to be the case, due to the crisis in spiritual and moral values.”

The rise of other Christian denominations, like Pentecostal and Evangelical communities was also mentioned. The Pope said, that often sincere people leave the Church not because of doctrinal issues of theological conflicts, but rather because of pastoral reasons and methodological problems in the Church.

Because of this the Pope called on them to reinvigorate the faith of their parishes.

Benedict XVI
"It is indispensable to revive the conscience of the faithful so they may be disciples and missionaries of Christ. To nurture the roots of their faith, to strengthen their hope and reinvigorate their testimony of charity.”

The Pope also called on them to promote programs that help victims of natural disasters, the poor, sick and afflicted, as well as those who are forced to leave their homeland to find work.

This is the first group of prelates from Colombia's Episcopal Conference to have met the Pope during this round of 'ad limina' visits.
