From Hungary to Rome... on a motorbike to mark a religious anniversary

2012-07-14

“We come from many places and cities in Hungary because the Hungarian Greek Catholic Church celebrates 100 years. Nearly 1500 Hungarian Catholics have come to Rome to celebrate.”

Bishop Péter Fülöp, is a big fan of these types of events on wheels. So he encouraged people to take part, be it by bus, plane, car, motorbike, bicycle or on foot.

“Our bishop was very excited about the centenary of the diocese so he encouraged us to go by bike or motorcycle. In fact he rode with the group of cyclists and then joined us for two days.  It was something unique.”

A total of 22 people, including five priests, traveled by motorbike, which means that in four days, they traveled more than 1050 miles. By doing so, they proved that one can also be an apostle on a motorbike.

“It is important to be close to motorists. I started riding four years ago. Many of them are good people but you have to talk to them and get to know them to bring them closer to the Church.”

So to take advantage of their time here in Rome, the group will of course celebrate this key anniversary. But it will also do some sightseeing while visiting the center of Christianity.
