Pope sends condolences for victims of Turkish cargo jet crash

January 16, 2017. On Monday morning, a Turkish cargo plane has tragically crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing dozens and hospitalizing many others. Many homes and vehicles in the small village are also destroyed. As a result, Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin has sent a message of condolences to the victims of the disaster on behalf of Pope Francis.

From Colombia to Turkey. Key orchestra welcomes young musicians

"'Via dei Concerti' was born and inspired by the so called silk route. It creates a union and  communication between people through personal contact'.  'The Via dei Concerti' was created to bring about social integration through music to kids around the world. It's  open to youths in the world who believe in the future and want to make music a vehicle of transformation.”

Among the young members more than half of them are from Colombia. They're part of the Batuta Orchestra, which had the opportunity to play for Benedict XVI while in Rome.

"It's a unique orchestra that along with the help of people and institutions, welcomes young people so they can develop their musical talents. It's also a way to fight against violence, by keeping kids away from drug traffickers, paramilitaries and guerrillas. Many of these young people here, have that hope, since once you embrace a musical instrument, you will never embrace a weapon.”

The young musicians from Colombia- by far outnumber the others, but there's something else that makes their visit even more special.

This cultural festival has already performed in 14 Italian cities. The next stop is France and Spain, where without a doubt, these talented youths will hear much deserved applause.
