2012-09-10

BENEDICT XVI
"I hope that those who take part in this initiative will be guided by the will of forgiveness and reconciliation, while sincerely searching for the common good.”

Discussions for this peace process will begin on October 8 in Oslo, Norway. The goal is to end the guerrillas tactics of terrorism, extortion and kidnapping.

Colombia's outgoing ambassador to the Vatican, says when it comes to this peace process, it's key to embrace 'truth' to full understand the complexity of the conflict.

CÉSAR MAURICIO VELÁSQUEZ

"True peace is built on the basis of truth. The Holy Father has encouraged Colombians, and really all people, to further that peace process under the principle of truth. With that principle comes forgiveness and reconciliation because true forgiveness also means knowing and understanding the full truth.”

Some of the key negotiations points between the  government and FARC rebels include drug trafficking, rural development, land and the security of farming families.
