Pope sends condolences for victims of Turkish cargo jet crash

January 16, 2017. On Monday morning, a Turkish cargo plane has tragically crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing dozens and hospitalizing many others. Many homes and vehicles in the small village are also destroyed. As a result, Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin has sent a message of condolences to the victims of the disaster on behalf of Pope Francis.

This new Facebook page, which is in Spanish was launched to reach out to Hispanic Catholics living in the U.S. In a welcoming video, Bishop Jaime Soto of Sacramento, thanks Hispanics for bringing their rich culture and faith to the U.S.

Bishops say, the numbers simply can't be ignored. Hispanics make up roughly 16 percent of the U.S. population and about 40 percent of Catholics in America. Even more, about 50 percent of U.S. Catholics are under 25.

The page will include updated information on the Catholic Church and its works. For now, it has a  TIME magazine profile on Mother Teresa and her charity work in Latin America.
