Benedict XVI asks new bishops to be example of trust in God

2012-09-20

BENEDICT XVI
“Jesus wished to entrust the mission to proclaim the Gospel especially to pastors, who must collaborate among themselves and with the successor of Peter to carry it to everyone. This is particularly urgent in our time that calls us to be bold in inviting people from all walks of life to encounter Christ and to solidify the faith.”

Benedict XVI noted that now bishops must have an even stronger commitment to the New Evangelization.

To coincide with the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council in October, the Pope reminded of the intention by John XXIII to call this new council: that faith meets the challenges for the people of today.

BENEDICT XVI
“Evangelization is not a job of some specialists, but of all the people of God, under the guidance of the pastors. Each of the faithful, in communion with the Church, must feel responsible to proclaim and witness the Gospel.”

In their meeting, the pope reminded the new prelates that they must help provide a stronger faith to the people from their local churches. He then asked them to be an example of trust in God in their new dioceses.
