Ahmadinejad also offers the Pope the chance to visit several of the churches within the country.

During the last few years, communication between the Vatican and Iran on religious freedom has been constant and respectful.

However, this is not the first time, the Iranian president invites the Pope to the Persian country. He did so after the visit to Tehran in early 2012 by Cardinal Jean Louis Touran, the president of the Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue.
