Pope Francis: No people is criminal and no religion is terrorist

February 17, 2017. Pope Francis has sent an important message to the Meetings of Popular Movements that is taking place in Modesto (California). The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

American priest and web guru targets new generation of faithful

FR. ROBERT BARRON
Founder, Word on Fire Ministries
"I started with sermons that I have on the radio. We put those on our website and it grew from there so I've been doing video commentaries on books and movies, pop culture and those go up on our website.”

He covers everything from faith, to reviews of blockbuster movies like Batman or James Bond.  For the most part, Father Barron's target audience are young people.

Over the past ten years, he has successfully done what the Church hopes to accomplish through the New Evangelization, reach out to younger people using their preferred methods of communication.

"I've seen our work from the very beginning as part of the new evangelization. Anybody under 40 is much more geared to a video world so i felt if we want to get the message out we gotta do it that way. People are more like to watch an 8 minute video than to read an article or read a column.”

His YouTube videos have generated over five million views, and also tens of thousands of comments.

He states that even when he visits places far away from his native Chicago, young people will often recognize him from his videos.

In fact, it's not just practicing Catholics he's engaging online which that makes his work with Word on Fire Ministries that more interesting.

"I love that because it allows me to enter into dialogue with a culture way outside the Church, secularist and rationalist and people who hate religion, but I can have a dialogue with them through the Internet, so I love that.”

His love for his faith and his willingness to engage others using newer methods has received tremendous response.

Though he's been at it for several years now, he expects to continue outreaching to whoever will listen to him online. After all, he knows the Internet is a very useful tool to help bring people together, no matter the distance between them.
