Benedict XVI: What can parents learn from God, 'the Father'

2013-01-30

The Pope said that despite the crisis of fatherhood and parental absence that's seen in many societies, the Gospel uses the term to describe God, the Father as infinitely faithful and forgiving.

BENEDICT XVI
"Jesus reveals God as a merciful Father who
never abandons his children and whose loving concern for us embraces even the Cross.”

The Pope explained that the love God, the Father has for His children, goes beyond people's understanding of power, since His 'might' is seen through his love and forgiveness.

BENEDICT XVI

"His might is that of a patient love expressed in the ultimate victory of goodness over evil, life over death, and freedom over the bondage of sin.”

Among those attending the weekly general audience, was a group from the Italian region of Basilicata, which actually gave the Vatican a Nativity Scene this Christmas. The Pope thanked them for the gift, which has since been enjoyed by thousands from all over the world.
