He reportedly got up at night, to go to the bathroom. Not recognizing the residence, the Pope, who was 84 years old at the time, bumped his head while trying to turn on the light. When he woke up the next morning, his staff saw that his head pillow was bloody.

"I think that nothing major happened because if it the Pope would've fallen and lost consciousness, then they would not have allowed him to continue, as his doctors did.”

Nothing was said to the press, back then. On Thursday the Vatican's spokesman, did not deny it.

"I don't deny that that happened, but it wasn't something that was relevant to how the Pope's trip developed. It didn't affect the Pope's schedule and it didn't trigger his decision to resign.”

The Pope's doctor who traveled with him, reportedly told him, that these types of international trips were simply too much for his body.
