2013-03-08

CARD. PETER TURKSON
Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, President
"Religion is not a moment of someone just going to stand in a church to pray but it's a response to a basic inner desire to respond to what one calls or identifies as a fulfillment of ones life.”

He was ordained a priest in 1975.  He currently lives in Rome and serves as the President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. It's a position he has held since October 2009.

He was made a cardinal in 2003, during John Paul II's last consistory. His appointment was historic, making him the first cardinal from Ghana.
Turkson has a masters in Theology from St. Anthony-on-Hudson Seminary in New York. Over the years he has also worked as a professor.
