The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

"The third chapter is on their formation. 'It's a spiritual life, this identity, in need of formation,' the directory says, citing the doctrine of recent Popes, about the Council. It has to be permanent. You cannot say during one part of your life, I have enough formation, it has to be permanent, during all your life.”

The publication of this new directory replaced the 1994 version. It includes many of the ideas developed for the Year of Priests. They hope it's not only a reference guide for priests, but for bishops as well.

MONS. CELSO MORGA
Secretary, Congregation for the Clergy

"The main person responsible for each priest's formation is himself, but his bishop is also responsible for him and the diocese. The bishop must offer them permanent paths for growth. This permanent formation has to be tied to the initial one at the seminary.”

The directory for the priests will be published in six languages, but translated to a few more. In addition to a print version, there is also one online (italian).
