Pope Francis: No people is criminal and no religion is terrorist

February 17, 2017. Pope Francis has sent an important message to the Meetings of Popular Movements that is taking place in Modesto (California). The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

Pope Francis honors Jesus' Passion on Good Friday Service

2013-03-29

To remember Jesus' Passion, the ceremony included a liturgical reading from St. John, which describes the Lord's passing. Afterward, the preacher of the Pontifical Household, Raniero Cantalamessa gave a reflection.

"Today, on Good Friday, as we celebrate the Year of Faith with a new Successor of Peter, it could be, if we wish it so, the beginning of a new chapter.”

One of the most moving moments is the Adoration of the Cross. The procession begins with those seated on the last rows of the Basilica. One by one, everyone pays homage.

The Pope also removed his Papal vestments to worship the Cross as a pilgrim. Then the Cardinals and faithful  kneel before the Crucifix before kissing it.

Mass is not celebrated on Good Friday. Rather, the death and burial of Jesus is honored and remembered, which is precisely why the day's readings focus specifically on His Passion.

It's a simple yet moving ceremony to mourn the death of Jesus until Easter, when His Resurrection is celebrated.
