Pope prays before John Paul II tomb on anniversary of his death


The Pope approached the chapel along with Cardinal Comastri, archpriest of the Basilica, and his personal secretary Alfred Xuereb. The Pope knelt and prayed in silence. Afterward, he did the same at the tombs of Blessed John XXIII and Saint Pius X

This visit rounded out the one the Pope did on Monday to the excavations under the Vatican that allowed him to be closer to the remains of St. Peter. A guide explained to him step by step, the evolution of the archeological investigations done during the 20th Century. 

During the special visit, the Pope walked all along the uncovered archeological remains before going to St. Peter's tomb.
