The Pope called for greater action in the protection of minors, greater help to victims of abuse, and due process against the abusers. He also urged the world's bishops' conferences to create and enforce greater measures to protect and end the abuse "in this area which is of great importance to the witness of the Church and its credibility.”

In the release, he also stated the victims "are especially present in his thoughts and prayers.”
