In an effort to help guide pilgrims through the last 90 kilometers or 56 miles of the trip, local communities in the Lazio region came together to create a cell phone app, titled "the Via Francigena in the South.”
The new app has text summaries of the towns and key points along the way, in historical and archeological contexts.
It also includes maps, photos and audio guides to help pilgrims navigate their way, or to plan their trip before heading out the door.
The app is designed in Italian, English and Spanish. It's free to download, and available for smart phones and tablets.
