The letter, which was originally written in Spanish, read as follows:
"I am pleased to send my cordial greetings in light of the National Day celebration of my beloved Argentina. I would also like to congratulate my fellow Argentinians, who are very present in my prayers. I pray to Our Lady of Luján, that she may protect and support them as they strive, in unity, for solidarity and justice.”
Pope Francis has met with Argentina's president, Cristina Fernandez on two occasions. First, when Bergoglio was a cardinal and the second after Pope Francis celebrated his inauguration Mass as Pontiff.
