The Pope welcomed them all at the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta, for a quick relaxed meeting. The Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, also joined in.
"The other day I was passing by St. Peter's Square during the audience. From the popemobile I saw someone who was screaming and wearing a San Lorenzo jersey. I saw him and I went like this...”

There was also time for some laughs. The Pope jokingly talked about the benefits of exercise and as an example, he talked about Cardinal Bertone.

"Look at our Secretary of State. See how happy he looks now.”

The Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, gave the Pope a signed jersey signed by the team's president Andrea Agnelli. He also gave him a miniature replica of their championship trophy.

During their friendly meeting, they also talked about the summer game where Italian teams will face off against Argentinian teams. Even though the Pope looked interested, he didn't say if he plans to attend.
