The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

“Wrinkles” an animated film about friendship and adventure in the late stages of life

2013-06-09

FEDERICO SARTORI
Director, Spanish Movie Festival in Rome
"Emilio, one of the two characters arrives at the nursing home with a serious case of Alzheimer. This of course makes him lose his memory frequently and it causes other problems as well. So, he is transferred to the upper floor, which is for demented patients. A terrible place. It's like a type of hell. His friends try to prevent this from happening by pretending he's not suffering from anything too serious.”

Despite the serious topic, the animated film becomes a story of friendship, adventure and tenderness during the late stages of life.

FEDERICO SARTORI
Director, Spanish Movie Festival in Rome
"It is amazing how the film is able to deal with such a strong theme in a very light hearted, funny way, and even with a bit of sarcastic humor. Poetry is also used throughout the film.”

The name of the movie is 'Arrugas', which translates to" Wrinkles.” It's based on a comic strip by Paco Roca, who since 2008, has been the winner of Spain's National Comic Award. This animation has has also received prizes from San Sebastian in 2011 and the Goya award for best adapted script and best animated film in 2012.

A story that helps to see up close the drama of Alzheimer’s and the importance of friendship at whatever age.
