Pope sends condolences for victims of Turkish cargo jet crash

January 16, 2017. On Monday morning, a Turkish cargo plane has tragically crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing dozens and hospitalizing many others. Many homes and vehicles in the small village are also destroyed. As a result, Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin has sent a message of condolences to the victims of the disaster on behalf of Pope Francis.

Massive Crowds greet Pope Francis as he leaves Rio's Cathedral


After celebrating Mass with bishops, priests and seminarians in Rios Sao Sebastiao Cathedral, the Pope stopped to greet the thousands of people who gathered around him. As usual, he took the time to personally speak to some of them.

Outside the cathedral, a red carpet was prepared for the Pope, as he was saluted by guards. Then, on his popemobile, the Pontiff made his way to his next appointment at Rio's Municipal Theater. Along the way, he was followed by great crowds, and often stopped to personally bless some children.
