Cardinal Ersilio Tonini passes away at 99

Italian Cardinal  Ersilio Tonini has passed away at the age of 99, in the northern city  of Ravenna.  Born in 1914, he was the oldest member of the College of  Cardinals. 

In Italy he was known for being an on air personality, and host of a show 'The Ten Commandments.'


He was made a cardinal by John Paul II in1994, at the age of 80. Because of his age, he was never eligible to vote in a conclave.


With the death of Cardinal Tonini, the College of Cardinals stands at 202, 112 of whom are cardinal electors.
