The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

WYD organizers hand out 30,000 blue coins to create prayer chains for Pope Francis

2013-08-04

When Pope Francis stepped out into the balcony for the first time, one of his first gestures was to ask the faithful to pray for him. This young group from Dallas took this request very seriously.

"Motivated by Pope Francis' first words that we should pray for him, we launched this campaign.”

The campaign itself is very simple and takes only one minute. The key is to pass on these coins featuring the face of Pope Francis, precisely to pray for him.

"The person who has the coin looks for someone else, they pray together for a minute, and then that person passes along the coin to someone else to create a chain.”

A prayer chain dedicated to the Pope. The group used the events for World Youth Day to promote their campaign, and handed out 30,000 coins. With one minute prayers to kick it off, that makes 30,000 minutes of prayer for the Pope.
