Pope Francis: No people is criminal and no religion is terrorist

February 17, 2017. Pope Francis has sent an important message to the Meetings of Popular Movements that is taking place in Modesto (California). The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

Ice bar allows visitors to escape Roman heat at below freezing temps

2013-08-25

The summer heat in Rome is as well known to visitors as the shape of the Colosseum or the home of the Pope. Its hot, and stuffy, and makes for an uncomfortable time outdoors.

But... on the shadows of the Colosseum and the Imperial Forum, one of the hottest spots in all of Rome also happens to be below freezing.

Owner, Ice Club Roma
"Right now we are mines five degrees Celsius, which is 23 degrees Fahrenheit.”

Welcome to the Ice Club Roma. This place adds a whole new meaning to the term 'just chilling.' Just to go inside, visitors will have to wear one of the bar's special insulating robes, designed to withhold body heat in this icy environment.

AUGUSTO SIMONCELLI
Owner, Ice Club Roma
"When someone walks in, they'll get an experience completely emerged in ice: the benches, the drinking glasses, the sculptures, the temperature. Everything resembles a polar effect.”

The polar scenery took months to be sculpted out of large blocks of ice, inside what is basically a giant freezer, which allows the ice to remain frozen.

AUGUSTO SIMONCELLI
Owner, Ice Club Roma
"All the senses are used. Touch because when you touch the ice, it feels cold. And then there are other emotional sensations. Our drinks are based off of scented flavors, and just to have your lips touch a glass made of ice, it's an experience that to me is very pleasant.”

Because of the intense heat, summers are the busiest times for the Ice Club, but they're open year-round. And though the owner jokingly refused to reveal just how much it costs to keep this frigid freezer frozen, he added that he's satisfied with the visitors frosty experience.
