Pope sends condolences for victims of Turkish cargo jet crash

January 16, 2017. On Monday morning, a Turkish cargo plane has tragically crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing dozens and hospitalizing many others. Many homes and vehicles in the small village are also destroyed. As a result, Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin has sent a message of condolences to the victims of the disaster on behalf of Pope Francis.

Pope approves new decrees for the Causes of Saints

December 22, 2016. On Wednesday, December 21, Pope Francis authorized the following decrees for the Causes of Saints:

Pope opens Augustinians' Chapter General with Mass at St. Augustine Basilica in Rome


Pope Francis celebrated the Mass that kicked off thestart of Chapter General for the Order of St. Augustine, who will elect their prior general for the next six years, and set the agenda for Augustinians in that time.   

The Pope arrived by car to the Basilica of St. Augustine at Campo di Marzio, located at the heart of Rome, near Piazza Navonna. His visit echoes the also historical visit he made several weeks ago to the Church of Jesus, to celebrate the feast day of St. Ignatius. This time around, the celebration honors St. Augustine, and Pope Francis joins the Augustinians.
