"He who sings, prays twice”, Saint Augustine used to say. That's why Sergio Sanchez uses music to speak with God. He mixes words with different rap rhythms and thats how hes completed three separate records. His last album will see the light of day shortly. Sergio, who goes by Fresh Sanchez, is proud to be a Catholic rapper.
"Many Christians have put an "x” to this type of music. But now I think they are realizing that rap isn't bad by itself. It's not an atheist music genre.”
His new album, "Desde dentro,” is made up of 15 songs and amongst them are several collaborations with artists from Colombia, United States, Italy and Spain. His music is a rhythmic prayer.
"When I write rap, everything I want to say to the Lord comes out, and to me, it's a blessing to be able to do catholic rap.”
And what he says to the Lord is this:
"I fight for my dream
It's forbidden to look back.
If the past has made me a slave,
the present is freedom.
Each instant in your presence equals an eternity.
After so much searching,
only in You I've found peace”.
