2013-10-10

Mourning the senseless loss of their daughter, an Italian couple met with Pope Francis to ask for his prayers. Holding a small picture of Eleonora Cantamessa, the victims brother and parents prayed with Pope Francis, after handing him a letter.

Their lives changed on September 8th, when 44 year Eleonora Cantamessa was killed in the city of Bergamo.

The victim, who was also a doctor, went out of her way to help a man who had been stabbed out on the street. But as she was helping, the attackers killed her after running her over with a car. The stabbed man also died.

The Pope briefly met with the victim's family, after his weekly general audience. Despite the brief meeting, the Pope did linger longer than usual.
