Pope Francis welcomed Ahmet Üzümcü, the president of Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, on September 27, exactly two weeks before they were awarded the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize.   

The OPCW arose from the Chemical Weapons Convention, supported by the United Nations. Syria is expected to become the 190th country to adhere to the convention, leaving out only Angola, Egypt, North Korea and South Sudan.
