Pope Francis marks 35th anniversary of John Paul II's election


Pope Francis recalled the 35th anniversary of the election of Blessed John Paul II, during the General Audience at St. Peters Square.   

As he greeted Polish-speaking pilgrims the Pope invoked the intercession of the former pontiff to bless all of the attendees at the audience.

During his greeting, Pope Francis also gave his well wishes to the organizers and participants taking part in a representation of the life of St. Francis, in the Polish city of Katowice. 


"I greet all Polish pilgrims. Today at Katowice, an important cultural and religious event is taking place: a sacred representation of the life and spirituality of St. Francis, with the participation of hundreds of actors and thousands of spectators. To the organizers and participants, may this artistic encounter with the Little Poor Man of Assisi stir within the hearts of everyone a love for God Creator, a respect for his Creations, and active charity for those in need of spiritual and material aid."
