Cardinal Domenico Bartolucci passed away today. He was born 96 years ago in Borgo San Lorenzo, in Florence. He was a prolific music composer and also led the Sistine Chapel Choir for many years. Some of his pieces have been played at the Vatican, and even in front of Benedict XVI.
It was the Pope emeritus who created him cardinal in November 2010. Pope Francis sent a telegram with his condolences to his family.
With the death of Cardinal Bartolucci, the College of Cardinals now has 200 members. At this point, 109 of them are cardinal electors, and 91 are non-electors, meaning that, because of their age, they can't vote in an eventual conclave.
