A mosaic of Filipino Saint, Pedro Calungsod, was blessed by Pope Francis, at the Vatican's crypt, located just underneath St. Peter's Basilica. The Pope blessed the image on Thursday afternoon, as the Filipino community looked on.
The mosaic will be installed permanently at the Vatican. It includes more than 600 color tones, showing Calungsod pressing a martyr's palm against his chest, along with a Christian Doctrine book.
After the Pope's blessing, Filipino Cardinal Luis Tagle, celebrated a Mass in honor of victims of the deadly typhoon that struck his country.
Calungsod was canonized in St. Peter's Square by Benedict XVI back on October 21, 2012.
