Pope Francis named Msgr. Alfred Xuereb as a member of the Commission on the IOR, or Vatican Bank, as well as the Commission on the Organization of the economic-administrative structure of the Holy See. Both groups advise the Pope on reforms to the Bank and the Vatican's administration.
The Pope's right hand man will officially be in charge of keeping him up to date on both groups' every move. The most recent, perhaps, was the decision to allow London-based firm Ernst & Young to audit the accounts of the Governorate, the official body that oversees the Vatican City State.
Vatican spokesperson Fr. Federico Lombardi said that the official announcement is largely symbolic, since Msgr. Xuereb had been carrying out this task for quite some time.
