Pope Francis: No people is criminal and no religion is terrorist

February 17, 2017. Pope Francis has sent an important message to the Meetings of Popular Movements that is taking place in Modesto (California). The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

San Lorenzo de Almagro brings championship trophy to Pope Francis

2013-12-18

By now, it's clear to anyone who knows Pope Francis that he's an avid soccer fan, especially for San Lorenzo de Almagro.

His beloved team claimed Argentina's top division soccer championship on Sunday. Just three days later, they were at the Vatican presenting their trophy to the Pope.

MARCELO TINELLI
Vice-President, San Lorenzo de Almagro
"He told us when he saw us that we were crazy to have come all the way here so quickly. Discreetly, we had made a promise, that if we won the championship, we could give our biggest fan, San Lorenzo's most famous fan in the world, the trophy we won this past Sunday.”

In addition to the championship trophy, the Pope also gets to keep the goalie's gloves, which helped deflect a likely goal. But those were not the only gifts the team brought from Argentina.

"This is the jersey, we added a halo to it.”

"Hardheaded! You are all hardheaded!”

Before the start of the general audience, the entire team met in private Pope Francis. He gave them an image of Our Lady, to place inside their stadium, and just maybe, help them win more trophies.
