Pope to young religious: Do not store the wisdom of the elderly in a museum

2014-02-03

Thousands of religious filled St. Peter's Basilica to celebrate the World Day for Consecrated Life with Pope Francis.

The Pope focused his homily on the encounter with Christ. He explained that, just like Mary and Joseph introduced Jesus to his people at the temple, religious orders introduce their members to Jesus.

POPE FRANCIS
"Our encounter with Christ took its shape in the Church through the charism of one of its witnesses. This always amazes us and makes us give thanks.”

The Pope said that within consecrated life, there is also an encounter between the young and the elderly; between the observers of the Law of the Lord, and those who are already prophets..

POPE FRANCIS
"It's good for the young people to gather this wealth of experience and wisdom, and to carry it forward, not to store it in a museum, but to bring it forward addressing the challenges of life.”

Pope Francis closed off by saying that the encounter with Christ brings joy, and asked them to have Him at the center of their lives.
