(-ONLY VIDEO-) The Pope welcomed the president of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, to the Vatican's Apostolic Palace. 

During their Saturday meeting, they talked about the positive impact religion plays in society and also the need to protect religious freedom

Tension in the Middle East was also a discussion point, as well as the hardships faced by Christian communities in the region. 

For years, the diplomatic ties between Turkey and Cyprus have been tense. But the Pope was happy to hear that both states have improved their relationship by engaging in dialogue.
