Pope Francis: No people is criminal and no religion is terrorist

February 17, 2017. Pope Francis has sent an important message to the Meetings of Popular Movements that is taking place in Modesto (California). The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

Pope to Brazil's president: Does this mean I have to pray so that Brazil wins the World Cup?

2014-02-22

Brazil's president, Dilma Rousseff, visited the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis. In a relaxed atmosphere, the Pope thanked her for welcoming World Youth Day and its millions of pilgrims to Brazil.

Perhaps the most light hearted moment came when the president gave the Pope a soccer ball signed by Brazilian player Ronaldo. Also, a  soccer jersey of the Brazilian team with a few words from soccer star, Pelé.

"So, this means the Pope will have to pray so that Brazil wins the World Cup...”

"If you want to pray so that Brazil wins, I'll really appreciate it. Or at least, stay neutral.”

The gifts didn't finish there. Pope Francis gave Rousseff a medallion engraved with the Angel of Peace. And he had another gift prepared...much more personal.

"I took the liberty of using you as messenger... For your daughter.”

The President of Brazil announced that Pope Francis will deliver a message against racism in the World Cup Championship. Dilma Rousseff traveled to Rome to assist the Consistory, where Pope Francis made  Archbishop Orani Tempesta a Cardinal.
