2014-03-17

What are some of the responsibilities of Christians? The Pope answered this question during his Sunday visit to the Santa Maria dell' Orazione parish. During his homily he talked about why it's so important have time for God and the Gospel

POPE FRANCIS
"What responsibilities do Christians have? Maybe you'll say, go to Mass every Sunday, or fast and abstain during Holy Week. But really the first responsibility of Christians is to listen to the love of God. To listen to Jesus.”

Reading the Gospel, he explained nurtures the soul and the faith. He said it's not enough to hear about Jesus on television shows or even on the radio. Instead, he said, one must set time aside to directly read the Gospel

POPE FRANCIS
"I also suggest you carry a small Gospel book with you, in your pocket or your bag. And when you have time, maybe while on the bus, whenever possible... Even though so many times on the bus, we have to keep our balance and even keep a close eye on our things.”

The Pope's parish visit  included meeting with the sick, and with those who are preparing to receive their first Communion. He also confessed a group of  parishioners.  After the Mass, the Pope blessed an image of St. Joseph
