Pope Francis met with hundreds of workers of a steel factory in Terni, in central Italy, at the Vatican's Paul VI Hall. Most of them brought their families with them.
The Pope talked about the dignity that having a job gives, and described the dangers of unemployment. He asked workers not to give in to pessimism.
"Dear brothers and sisters... Never fail to hope for a better future. Fight for it. Fight.”
Pope Francis also explained how faith can help them at work. For the Pope, a faith lived with joy becomes a "humanizing force” in society.
"If everyone does their part, if all people put at the center the human person and its dignity, not money; if an attitude of solidarity and brotherly sharing inspired in the Gospel grows, it will be possible to get out of the swamp of a tiring and difficult economic and working situation.”
Pope Francis finished the meeting praying along with workers so that they could always work with creativity, solidarity and faith.
