The President of the Republic of Malta, George Abela, visited Pope Francis before the end of his term as head of the Government of the island.
And though it was an official visit, his grandchildren got all the attention.
-He's been two weeks now telling me he wanted to give you this.
-What will I do with this? Is it really for me?
The older grandson is named is Luca, and is four years old. The baby is named Matthew. The Pope Francis expressed his affection.
-How old is he?
-Less than two months.
-Less than two months!
During their meeting, the Pope and Abela talked about inmigration, the role of the Catholic Church in the country, specially in the fields of education and health, as well as the relations between the European Union and Malta.
Pope Francis couldn't help feeling emotional while saying goodbay.
-Thanks for your testimony, thanks for your testimony. It has really touched me.
Granddaughter Giorgia May was the center of all looks when the official photo was taken. She made everyone smile.
The President of Malta gave the Pope a portrait of St. Francis of Assisi, and in return he gave him a copy of his Apostolic Exhortation Evagelii Gaudium and a medallion of St. Martin. The main gift, though, was the joy and laughs of the President's grandchildren.
