Pope's Angelus: Sometimes we're so proud that we even judge God!

2014-03-31

Thousands of pilgrims went St. Peter's Square on Sunday to listen to the Pope's Angelus. The good weather proved that spring has finally arrived to Rome.

Pope Francis reflected on the passage of the Gospel where Jesus cures a blind man. He explained that sometimes a spiritual blindness can stop people from seeing the light of God.

POPE FRANCIS
"Sometimes, unfortunately, our life is a little like that of the doctors of the law: from the height of our pride we judge others, and, in the end, the Lord! Today we are invited to open ourselves up to the light of Christ to bear fruit in our life, to eliminate non-Christian ways of acting.”

Pope Francis invited all Christians to behave as "Children of Light,” with humbleness, patience and mercy. He asked everyone at the square a very direct question.

POPE FRANCIS
"Is your heart open or closed? Is it open or closed to God? Is it open or closed to my fellow neighbor? There's always something closed off inside of us, it stems from our sins and mistakes. Let's not be afraid. Don't be afraid. Let's be open to the light of God. The Lord always waits for us.”

As part of his personal style, Pope Francis ended the Angelus by giving everyone some homework. He asked all Christians to read  Chapter 9 of John's Gospel, where it's explained how one can go from blindness to light.
