Pope Francis met with profesors and students of three universities in Rome run by the Society of Jesus: the Pontifical Gregorian University, the Pontifical Biblical Institute, and the Pontifical Oriental Institute.
In his speech, Pope Francis asked them to protect history and always looks to the future.
"Be aware of the present but always have your eyes fixed on the future...But far, eh? Look to the horizon with creativity and imagination, seeking to have a global vision of the situations and real challenges. Find a way of facing them together, looking for new paths without fear.”
He added that pontifical universities aren't meant to be factories for philosophers and theologians, since a theologian who doesn't pray "ends up sinking in narcissism.”
The Pope also called on proffesors to create a warm atmosphere in class, so that they stay connected with their students.
