Pope Francis: No people is criminal and no religion is terrorist

February 17, 2017. Pope Francis has sent an important message to the Meetings of Popular Movements that is taking place in Modesto (California). The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

Pope Francis criticizes layoffs caused by the economic crisis

2014-04-23

Thousands of pilgrims filled St. Peter's Square despite cloudy skies, and chances for rain. Pope Francis surprised a group of Italians and Argentinians, when he stopped his Popemobile to greet them.

But a greater surprise came when he denounced the situation several Italian workers are going through.

POPE FRANCIS
"Yesterday, I received a video message from workers in Lucchini de Piombino. They sent it to me just before their blast furnace closed down. It truly moved me, and saddened me.”

The Pope asked the workers not to lose hope, and told them he was at their side, praying for them. But he also directed a message to the people in power who make these types of decisions.

POPE FRANCIS
"To those responsible, I ask that you spend all efforts in creativity and generosity to reignite hope in the hearts of our brothers, the hearts of every person laid off because of waste and the economic crisis. Please! Open your eyes and do not remain with arms crossed!”

In his catechesis, Pope Francis talked about hope. He asked several times if Christians place their hopes on power and money, or on the Risen Christ.

POPE FRANCIS
"Brothers and sisters, He is alive, He is with us. Don't go to so many burials, that today they promise you one thing, and then give you nothing. He is alive. Why do you look for the living among the dead?”

The Pope added that Christ brings a deep and authentic joy. But he also admitted, that at times, "it's not easy to accept the presence of the Risen” among us.
