Pope sends condolences for victims of Turkish cargo jet crash

January 16, 2017. On Monday morning, a Turkish cargo plane has tragically crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing dozens and hospitalizing many others. Many homes and vehicles in the small village are also destroyed. As a result, Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin has sent a message of condolences to the victims of the disaster on behalf of Pope Francis.

Pope approves new decrees for the Causes of Saints

Prominent Jewish leaders to attend the canonization of John XXIII and John Paul II

Over 20 leaders from the Jewish community will be attending the canonization events taking place Sunday in St. Peter’s Square. Michael Schudrich, Chief Rabbi of Poland; Riccardo Di Segni, Chief Rabbi of Rome; and Oded Wiener, Chief Rabbinate of Israel are three of the head Jewish leaders who will participate in Sunday’s events. 

The director of interrelgious affairs for the American Jewish Committee, Rabbi David Rosen, will also be in attendance. 

Two personal friends of Pope Francis, Rabbi Abraham Skorka of the Rabbinical Seminary of Buenos Aires; and Claudio Epelman, Executive Director of the Latin American Jewish Congress, will also be present.
