Pope appoints new bishops in Korea, the Philippines, the U.S. and Ukraine

May 31, 2016. The Pope has appointed John Bosco Chang-Ho Shin Auxiliary Bishop of Daegu, Korea. Between 1993 and 1998 he studied theology at Romes Pontifical University Regina Apostolorum and Liturgy at the Pontifical Institute of St. Anselm. Jose Elmer Imas Mangalinao has been named auxiliary bishop of Lingayen-Dagupan in the Philippines. He was director of the College of the Immaculate Conception in Cabanatuan City. Pope Francis has also appointed Auxiliary Bishop Edward M. Deliman from Philadelphia, USA. He was pastor of Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Vitaliy Skomarovskyi has been named Apostolic Administrator of Kyiv-Zhytomyr in the Ukraine, until he is assigned as bishop in that diocese.

New Custodian of the Holy Land

May 20, 2016. Friar Francesco Patton is the new Custodian of the Holy Land. He succeeds Fr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, who was in office for the last 12 years. Friar Francesco Patton is 52 years old from Vigo Meano (Italy). He graduated in Communication Sciences from the Pontifical Salesian University of Rome and until now was the provincial minister of the Order of Friars Minor in Saint Vigilius of Trent.

Pope Francis to visit a “Polish Parish” in Rome

On Sunday, May 4th, Pope Francis will visit the Roman parish of St. Stanislaw.  Usually, the Polish community in Rome attends this parish. On this occasion they'll have a thanks giving Mass in light of the canonization of St. John Paul II. 

Before the canonization, he sent a video message to Poland, where he described John Paul II as an example. In it, he says, the new saint encouraged Christian to not be afraid. 

During his visit, he is expected to meet a group of homeless people as well. 

The two hour visit will start at 9:30 am. Pope Francis will then head back to the Vatican to lead the Regina Coeli in St. Peter's Square.
